My name is Sargon Khubyar. I am 69 years old, married 42 years with 3 children and 3 grandchildren. My wife’s name is Alannah, retired as an employee of TBPL (30 years) in the Children’s Department. I retired as a CPR railroad engineer in 1995 after 35 years of service. Graduated from Lakehead University with a degree in Sociology/Anthropology in 1972. From 1995-1997, I served Northwood Ward as their councillor. I voted in favour of the new hospital, lobbied for the construction of new playgrounds and baseball diamonds, and with the help of Councillor Lorne Allard, had the Kinsman building built at the James Street Soccer Fields. New lighting was installed in strategic areas in order to improve safety. Also worked closely with staff and members at the Vale Community Centre to help with their needs and requests. On council, I served on numerous boards and committees such as the Lakehead Social Planning Council. In 1998, I was nominated to sit on the Police Service’s Board, where I encouraged the development of all aspects of community-based policing to enhance the safety and security of the citizens.
Have always volunteered my time in the community ex. church, fundraising and as a coach and referee.
